INDEPENDENCE OF MALAYA


Date August 31, 1957, the eve of the 12-hour days deemed sacred date for all Malaysians, is the most historic moment. It marked the end of British colonial dilemma of our country, Malaysia (formerly Malaya). Date saint was greeted with cries and shouts "MERDEKA! MERDEKA! MERDEKA!" by all Malaysians, as a sign independent of colonial rule as a result of persistent struggle fighters in the homeland's independence Malay.

On a lucky day was from sunset again, thousands of people have gathered in the field Selangor Club and the surrounding area illuminated with colored lights that colorful flag lowering ceremony to join the Union Jack and raise the Malaysian flag.
Once the big clock at the Sultan Abdul Samad building beep 12 times, screams "MERDEKA!" Filled the air, and this moment begins a new history of an independent homeland.

The eve of the date of August 31; 1957, the preparations of the government and the people to welcome and celebrate that independence was ready arranged in a big way. Federal statewide in Malaya were adorned with various ornaments. Buildings, especially government buildings, businesses, coalitions and others were decorated with flags, lights forming the letter 'MERDEKA'.

Festival celebrating independence in Kuala Lumpur was held for 11 days from 29 August to 7 September 1957.

Order the program's official independence celebrations started with a ceremony celebrating the arrival of His Royal Highness the Duke and Duchess of Glocester, and his son, Prince William. On Thursday, August 29, 1957, two days before the celebration of Independence was celebrated, Duke Duchess of Glocester and his son arrived at the Kuala Lumpur airport. Dyke of Glocester, was the uncle of Queen Elizabeth, and he was the personal well-being officer in Her Majesty the Queen in celebration of Independence and the Constitution for the purpose of submitting a letter to withdraw the British forces overshadow the Federated Malay States and the rule of the British Crown over Penang and Malacca, to Chief Minister of the Federation of Malaya, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, in the Declaration of Independence ceremony on August 31, 1957.


The next day, on Friday, August 30, 1957, celebration in Kuala Lumpur continued to be celebrated with jubilation. Apart from prayer and thanksgiving ceremony at the mosque, also a significant moment in the history of the official opening of Stadium Merdeka. Apart from being the sport of tennis is also used as a declaration of independence. Stadium opening ceremony was held at 8:15 am with the show held a mass workout by pupils.

THE FORMATION OF MALAYSIA


On August 31, 1957, the Federation of Malaya gained independence. After independence, Tunku Abdul Rahman had submitted to the British Government that cadagan Brunei, Sabah, and Sarawak merged with the Federation of Malaya became Malaysia. However, the British government rejected the proposal as Singapore aside. 

For the first time, Sir Malcolm Macdonald, the Commissioner General of the British in Asia that is assigned to coordinate British policy on the Malay Peninsula, Singapore, Brunei, Sabah, Sarawak and urged that the territory - territory that finds an anchor in terms of political relations.

Since 1947, Singapore champion affiliated with the Federation of Malaya. For example, the People's Action Party (THUNDERSTORM) and David Marshall, Chief Minister of the first (1955) also recommends that the federal concept. In the Malay Peninsula, Tan Sri Ghazali Shafie Mohammmad in 1954 and Dato 'Tan Cheng Lock in 1955 also suggest the same concept. The concept is being intensified when Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj (the Chief Minister of the Malay Peninsula) in 1955, announced his intention to seek independence for Singapore through the Malay Peninsula. In 1956, Tunku Abdul Rahman announced the formation of 'Tanah Melayu Raya' which is a combination of the Malay Peninsula, Singapore, Brunei, Sabah, and Sarawak.

The idea sparked the formation of Malaysia on 27 Mai 1961, by the speech made by the Prime Minister of the Federation of Malaya, Tunku Abdul Rahman. Speech was held at the Adelphi Hotel, Singapore during a luncheon before the Foreign Correspondents Association of the State in Southeast Asia. Tunku Abdul Rahman generate ideas to create new forms of economic and political union involving the Federation of Malaya to the British colony, Singapore, Brunei, Sabah, and Sarawak.

The idea was born of the realization that Malaya and territories involved difficult to stand alone and separate, especially in the face of any competition at the international level. This proposal means that the need for cooperation between the people of the provinces concerned to cooperate with the British government in the successful formation of a new political ideas in Southeast Asia. 

Meanwhile, Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore's Chief Minister at the time, also suggested the merger of Singapore with the Federation of Malaya. He realized that the combination of the Federation of Malaya, Singapore will allow the early independence and can restrict the Influence of the communist.The proposal was rejected by the Tunku Abdul Rahman as concerned about racial balance, the majority of Singapore's population is Chinese. 
The proposal elicited various reactions. On July 23, 1961, on Malaysia Solidarity Consultative Committee established (JPPM). JPPM provide opportunities for leaders in Sabah and Sarawak to submit proposals as they are still was against the idea. Finally Sabah and Sarawak to accept this idea and organize a memorandum to be sent to the Cobbold Commission. The Commission is carrying out a task of reviewing the opinion of the people of Sabah and Sarawak, then make a recommendation of the new constitutions. In August 1962, the Intergovernmental Committee (JAK) established to formulate constitutions Malaysia. JAK issued its report on 27 February 1963 This report has been accepted by the British. Based on this report, Malaysia has signed a covenant in London with four states involved in the membership application on 9 July 1963, Malaysia was officially declared on 16 September 1963.
